SPD Parent Support

Just want to let off some steam, have a safe place to scream and/or just have someone listen without judging or giving advice? This is the place for it. Here, you can do all that and simply get our support, our understanding and our sympathy. Sometimes, you just want to unload your burden, be heard and get some validation. No advice will be offered unless it is specifically requested.

So, we're listening... lay it on us...

"one of the most profound ways you can show your love is to simply listen; don’t fix, don’t defend, don’t agree or disagree….just listen."

Hi Elle,

Hang in there. My daughter is now 11 years old and I used to wonder the same things. Sensory integration therapy does work, although it requires patience and some dedication and hard work on your part as well. The most important thing with Sensory Processing Disorder is to catch the little one's early enough before they fall. And, you've done that part. Keep the occupational therapist informed and involved. And, consider checking in with the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation if you haven't already done so at: http://www.spdfoundation.net/

Take care and Many Blessings,

Craig
Thanks Craig
Luckily, my son has an awesome SEIT teacher, along with his other amazing preschool teachers, who are really in tune to him. We got to a Sensory Gym with an OT twice a week, and I feel he's just starting to find is way there... Hopefully, we'll learn the tools to help him stay even and get the sensory stimulation he needs. Is your daughter Sensory Seeking or Avoidant? Do you still see any of her 'quirks' now that he's older?
Best,
Elle
