Thank you for your encouragement. I am also on the diet but for another issue. We are in South Dakota. I have more hope with this diet than I have had in a very long time.

Hi Janelle:
I'm really sorry that you've had so many issues with your son! There are so many issues that we families are having to deal with these days!!! From what I have read, the GFCF diet is good for everyone.. but especially for those with serious health issues.
It's hard on teenagers, unless they grew up with it or HAVE to do it. My son is 10 and he teaches others about it. I always say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.. and I didn't realize that I also had gluten sensitivities.. until we put my son on the GFCF diet!

We've gone mostly "alternative' b/c I am dedicated to HEALING, not just MANAGING the symptoms. I want to get 100% better.. and I want my son to be there too.. and so we do MANY alternative therapies.. and clean out the air, the toxins in the home, detox the body, add nutrients, sleep on magnets, drink filtered mineral water, etc.. We have done MANY things. . and we continue to heal.
Believe that your son will be FINE. Teach him that he's FINE! The mind body connection is STRONG!!!
If you're in Orlando.. please come to our event next Monday night!!!

We are just starting this new adventure. We have five children. Our oldest is married and our second oldest is at college. We have three boys at home. A senior, a freshman and a 9 year old. The 9 year old has had seizures since he was 2 and was recently diagnosed with SPD. We are only on day two of the GFCF diet but I can see some challenges with the two older boys who are cross country runners and I just can't see all five of us being able to do it together. I am grateful that there are others to talk to as we go down this road.

Today is Day 4 of GF. Hoping that the GF will be enough, and our adventure won't have to expand to CF too...but I know in just 4 days that if it does...we can do this.

Hey Amanda..
All is available on line.. thankfully.. and where I would start researching is www.celiac.org. Its one of the best places on the net to learn and find companies that are offering discounts on bulk food, etc..
I buy rice noodles in Chinese/asian stores to replace the pasta.
I buy flour to buy pizza dough from Bob's Red Mill. Amhauser Bush - beer company makes RED BRIDGE -the Gluten free beer, and bread - we buy rice bread or make white bread in our bread machine.. you can order from whole foods or a health food store.

Other than that.. you gotta check the soups, processed meats, and sauces. Gluten is in everything. So is milk. But without it.. your life will change dramatically!!!

Good brands -GLUTINO, VANNS, AMYS - Pizza IANS, and several others.. all available on line!!!

I'm new to all of this, as my two-year-old and I are only 6 months into our SPD journey. I'm hearing a lot about special diets and the benefits therein. I have no idea how to start, though! How do you know if the diet is suitable for your child? How do you go about finding the products in rural Kentucky (where we live) and how much more expensive are they? These are the most prominent questions so far, and my son's therapists are not quite as knowledgeable in this area.
