I looked at some of your links. Thanks, Craig. I should have prepared a "bag of tricks" to take with me. I'm going to go back there soon on a day that is quieter (not a school holiday) and try again. This time I will be prepared and am determined to…

Hi Elle, Hang in there. My daughter is now 11 years old and I used to wonder the same things. Sensory integration therapy does work, although it requires patience and some dedication and hard work on your part as well. The most important thing with…

I so understand Mary. And, it is so hard to watch our kids have a difficult time in school and with their peers. Without a ton of money, the options are limited. Hopefully, the listening therapy and Neurofeedback will help him slow that engine of hi…

Sharing A Couple of Really Cool and Useful Sites

Hi All,

I thought some of you might have an interest in these sites or perhaps passing them along.

The first link is the website for the film, “Autistic-Like: Graham’s Story” - http://www.autisticlike.com/ . The site and the trailer are beautiful and Erik Linthorst has done a wonderful job explaining what I have bumbled and stumbled around for years trying to do. I ordered the DVD yesterday. There are 3 versions of the DVD – home use,… Continue

An Email I Just Sent To The President of The United States

"Give a hug to a child/person with special needs/challenges. You will receive more love in return than you can shake a stick at! ;)" This is the post on my Twitter and facebook pages. It is a re-post is in honor of President Obama's major "foot in mouth" faux pas the other day.

"If you have a child with special needs, you understand the struggles that he/she must overcome. And, you also understand that, even though we try to mainstream them, they are not truly accepted by their peers.Continue

Contest is Over...Calling all Twitter Birds - Red Alert! Priority 1!

Well, folks. I gave it a shot and lost. It just wasn't in the cards...

The winning Tweet was:

"BrentSpiner#1 RT @joshwanamaker: @BrentSpiner STOP IT PLEASE MY BRAIN, OH GOD MY BRAIN!"

With Brent's 500th Tweet, @joshwanamaker chose to tell over 117,000 followers:

BrentSpiner RT @joshwanamaker: "It's a good Data die!"

So, I guess this is another example of how hard it is to get our message out. And, how amazing it is to see what messages actually do catch the attention of others… Continue

My Child is Lonely...

When I write or post, I try to stay positive, I try to find the "Many Blessings" in the situation. Sometimes it is rather easy; sometimes its not. To be honest, this morning I'm struggling a bit.

I'm on an mission in a way. And, I feel that it will be the most challenging one that Marissa and I share together. You see, in spite of all of my daughter's accomplishments, she continues to struggle with acceptance from others -- her peers and sadly, some of her teachers. Don't get me wrong, we have… Continue

Transitions, Transitions, Transitions...

Got the Daylight Saving's Time Blues? Does your child have meltdowns when transitioning from one thing to another in school and at home? Are you a single parent with a child who has huge issues transitioning from one parent to another? Well, this is our place to talk about it.

I used to go bonkers trying to figure out why normal, everyday transitions were such a royal pain in the you know what. I mean, just getting out of bed and starting the day was a nightmare. First, we had the wake up call,… Continue

Hey Craig!! How are you??? We're so grateful that the new year has come. Good riddence 2009!!! Wecome 2010!!!

Just wanted to share with you a few things I've found... we started using energy medicine - using MAGNETS... and with awesome results. WE tried the magnet bed/matress and comforter... from Nikken.and their water filter system. The magnets help rid the body of toxins and help put the kids in REM sleep. When my child did it the first day.. the teachers were blown away and didn't know how he was so different/attentive that day. The water adds minerals and oxygen.. and both are being shown to add to the brain, nervous system.. the water our kids are using/all of us are using has no minerals. This is a Japanese system. My friend who sells them is spanish and awesome: Gloria Banzhaf mgbanzhaf@mac.com You have to have a rep to try/buy. But the company is NIKKEN.. and although it's not covered by insurance.. we're buying their whole wellness system when we can.

DEfinitely check for FOOD SENSITIVITIES for your daughter too.. I'm learning SOOOO much.. we have to rid ourselves of these childhood epidemics!!!

Happy new Year.. write soon! mary

Thanks again... I'm trying not to worry about things, but I'm just learning so much in just the past couple of weeks... I feel terrible because I didn't know about spd. I didn't understand the way she was acting and let myself believe that I wasn't a good mom when people would look at me because of her throwing a fit in the store. I used to be one of those people complaining about the kid screaming all through wal-mart. Now that I'm kinda of understanding I want to jump in and take control... I've just got to stop and take things in stride.. I just want to help her, but she is still the same little girl as yesterday and this is something that won't change in a short period of time... no matter what I learn... I will take your advice and go watch a good movie until I have to go to work... Thanks for listening... And please tell me every once in a while just to chill out. haha

Thanks Craig. I'm still trying to read and take in all this info... There is so much. I started the book last night and stayed up till 2 am. There are still lots of questions but don't really know where to start. One thing my daughter does that I can't find anything about is rub herself in her private area. I try redirecting which is what ped. said to do. Doesn't work... Tried 2 or 3 pullups to decrease the sensation... doesn't work... Is this part of SPD??? or something else.
I'll just start with one question at a time... Don't want to wear out my welcome yet

Thanks for any input on this.. I'm going crazy

Thanks for the warm welcome Craig.

I am looking forward to getting involved in this group. My son is 8 and has SPD - he is very sensory defensive. He is the middle child of 5 - so it is very busy here!

Let me read some of the info on the site then I will start asking questions!!

Chat soon,

Hi Craig,
Thanks. I would like to know more about enzymes and supplements in the treatment of SPD. I have a 5 year old daughter and we're trying quite a few things to help with her daily challenges including OT, Thetahealing, muscle testing, and diet modifications, but we're still not "there" yet. Any tips?

Hey C!
Darling pic of you and Marissa!
My book is with an agent.. but it's also being edited so I might self publish and just get it OUT there. It's graphic.. and it's personal, and it tells ALL.. our live has been VERY chaotic and stressful. I share all of my frustrations, along with therapies we tried.. including prayer, healing scriptures, magnets, diet, supplements, OT, medicine, and numerous other things! EVerything worked a little.. and finally.. I came up with a daily routine with about 100 things in it! I know you know what I mean!
I'm working day and night to release the book, to get this site up, and tomorrow going into the studio to add video to the site! Whew! It doesn't stop.. but JUST as soon as I can.. I'll get you the book!!! I believe it will help people understand what we go thru!
Back to work! :) mary
