New Therapy clinic and OT's for the boys!

Finally,we got our ot evaluationregarding the boys,I showed them to their current therapist, and she was surprised that they didn't use the sipt test, they used a mat test I think it was.I'm not sure the difference, but I'm glad that they'll be going to the clinic for therapy, and they'll finally each have their own therapists,so it should definitly be a big help to them. Not sure what this means for when school starts in the fall,as I haven't heard anything yet.I'm hoping this means they'll have a therapist available to them as they'll just never make it through a whole day with out any relief from someone who knows how to deal with them, and help them be successfull. The seperate therapists is a good start though.

I've started writting up house rules for all of the boys, and some chore lists so they all know they can help out.I'm also starting to write out a schedual for the house,so we can get everyone who"loves" them on board with us! I'm trying to get specific routines for AM,PM,and the stuff in the middle ie,getting ready for therapy, getting the babies to their class, getting older brother to his stuff, etc.Speaking of my oldest son,he had his evaluation as well, and he will be also going to an audiologist for auditory sensory issues a soon as we get our official recommendations as to who we should go to.She also meantioned that he should go to an podiatrist for his feet as he's been walking on his toes and balls of his feet since forever. He has actually failed everything again this year, and will be attending both sessions of summer school. He's not very happy about it,but then he really didn't do much after foot ball ended, accept doing the swan dive into the F pool.

I was hoping that this eval would give us hope that with a bit of help from the clinic he might pass the summer coarses and help get him on track for next year, but I'm not sure it will. She asked him if he'd like to come work with them there for a while to work on a few things, and maybe help him with his organizational issues. We'll see how it all plays out.He never finished his application essay for the Alternative High School, and when I pressed him about it he claimed that he changed his mind about going! I can't even imagine what school will be like for him,he has to take all the regular sophmore classes,as well as all that he failed, social studies, science and his math class. That is if he passes his summer english classes, otherwise they'll be fit in there as well! It's crazy, but I can only do so much for him.He has to want to go to the Alt school, and he has to write his own essay. He's talking about possibly playing football again next fall, but with his grades I'm not sure they'll let him.My fingers are crossed we can get him on a positive path soon.

The babies have both recently been accepted into the infant and toddlers class at WABAN,and I know that'll be very helpful for Luke and Paisley! They are aware of the boys issues and have Lukes eval from both CDS and the pediatric clinic so they'll even keep an eye out for P and let us know if we should get her evaluated as well, but I just haven't been able to entertain that thought yet,so glad they'll be helping.I'll now have to work with schedualing issues and trying to get the boys in summer day camp program.Keep fingers crossed for us that we can get it all fit in.That's us for now,and we are still looking for a home of our own,so hoping that works out so we can start on our own sensory/play room.

Wow, Donna, you sound amazing! What a MOM! I have a 2-year-old with SPD and one of the things I have done is making out a schedule for him (with pictures), so that he knows when we do what. He loves to go over to it and ask when we will be doing the activities listed. He also has apraxia, so the poictures mean the world to him ans help him express himself better. With those and the ASL we use, he can communicate more comfortably. I love hearing about your family, and the ingenuity you show in helping them. Keep em moving Super-Mom! :)

Thanks Mary,I don't know about super, but I do know the more I'm learning and figuring out for myself the more determined I feel to get my children everything they need to help make them successful in school, and life, and to get the word out about SPD. Thanks for the encouraging words though.
